Upcoming Service Trips to Guatemala
Life changed in 2020 for so many around the world. As did so many others, Nuestros Niños needed to adapt how we could best help. We focused heavily on emergency food for families and the elderly in Guatemala.
We felt it would not be wise (from a health standpoint of our team volunteers, host organization staff members, and those we serve) to continue forward with trips in 2020 or 2021. We felt the money we would have utilized serving in Guatemala was best utilized in other ways than the normal ONIL stoves, craft projects, home building projects, etc.
One part of our mission is to serve those in Guatemala - and this needed to be forefront - over providing volunteer service trips for families (and individuals) or providing adopted children with the chance to build a sense of pride in their birth country with a return visit.
We do hope that in 2022, we can lead 2-3 Nuestros Niños Service Trips. Tourism is a main income source in the city that is our home base. By going back, we will be serving in traditional ways, but also by helping people regain employment as part of the bigger picture. It will also allow a sense of normalcy to those of us that want to return to Guatemala to serve.
So...
Have you been thinking about how you can serve others and make a difference in someone's life?
Do you want to go on a trip that is heartwarming, life-changing, and fun?
Are you up for an adventure?
If so, we may have the answer for you!
Trip 1: Saturday, May 28-Sunday, June 5, 2022
Trip 2: Saturday, July 2-Sunday, July 10, 2022
Trip 3: Saturday, November 19-Sunday, November 27, 2022
We do suggest that children be at least 9-10 years old and all individuals be able to walk at least a mile.
On the trips we spend 5 days serving others working alongside our host organization, FundaMaya/Action Alliance.
We serve through various projects which may include:
We also have 2 days of fun and cultural activities which may include:
Everyone wants to know where we stay and what we eat. This is a family-oriented service trip so we want people to be comfortable. We have previously stayed at Hotel Dos Mundos, Hotel Aurora, and others. They are clean and comfortable - and have the ambience of a courtyard centered "home away from home."
We are in a third world country, so there are precautions that must be taken - such as not drinking the water from the tap. We eat at trusted restaurants, and breakfasts are normally at the hotel.
